Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin at the Saturday night priesthood meeting counseled boys to prepare for the future, parents and leaders to be examples and single men to marry.
Speaking first to the young men, Elder Wirthlin of the Council of the Twelve said they should seek instruction and guidance from their parents and priesthood leaders. When he was a youth, Elder Wirthlin said three bishops - Charles E. Forsberg, his father and Marion G. Romney - made a big difference in his life. he confided to the young men that their leaders also can make a difference for them.A young man must decide which direction he will go in his life - whether he will choose good or evil, the apostle continued.
"The God-given principle of free agency provides that right of choice in a world filled wiht beautiful, heavenly creations on one hand and wiht the evil designs of Satan, the enemy of God and man, on the other," he said.
He urged yung men to realize that holding the priesthood is a privilege and honor. Young men also need to accept and magnify callings in the Church. He counseled them to prepare for and be worthy to receive a mission call.
Elder Wirthlin then spoke to priesthood leaders.
"The seed of the present is the harvest of the future," he said. "As fathers and as priesthood leaders, I urge you to focus more attention on teaching, guiding and shepherding these young men, especially by example."
The apostle also counseled single brethren to marry at the proper time, and not put off becoming a father and husband.
