Groundbreaking ceremonies for the San Diego California Temple were to be held Saturday, Feb. 27, in the Golden Triangle area near La Jolla, just north of San Diego.
The San Diego temple was announced on April 7, 1984. Stakes in the temple district are Carlsbad, Chula Vista, El Cajon, El Centro, Escondido, Laguna Nigel, Lemon Grove, Mission Viejo, Penasquitos, Poway, San Diego, San Diego East, San Diego North, Santee, and Vista in California and Tijuana, Tijuana La Mesa, Mexicali, and Mexicali Los Pinas in Mexico. The temple district also includes units in the San Diego mission.The new temple will be California's third.
Construction is well underway on temples in Las Vegas, Nev., and Portland, Ore., and ground was broken Oct. 10, 1987, for the Toronto Ontario Temple.
