'Standing room only' at Aussie firesides

Many missionaries and Church leaders dream of "standing-room-only" audiences at Church functions held mainly to teach investigators and new members. In the Australia Perth Mission, that dream has become a reality as special firesides are held each fast Sunday.
"An Evening with Neighbors and Friends" is the name given the firesides, which are under direction of public relations missionaries, Elder Roi Walker and his wife, Sister Aileen Walker. Each fireside is especially designed for investigators and newly baptized members to further their knowledge and understanding of gospel principles through music, photos, videotapes and talks.The firesides, an hour and 15 minutes in length, have been held monthly in the Perth Australia Southern River and the Perth Australia Dianella stakes. "The firesides are designed so that the warm spiritual experience can be continued in private conversations with the missionaries or members who host them," said Elder Walker.
"Modified versions of the fireside will be taken to outlying wards and branches. One was held recently in Bunbury, 2 1/2 hours south of Perth, and was a great success. Now a monthly event will be held there as well."
Title topics of the firesides have included "Men Are that They Might Have Joy," "This Seer and His Legacy to the World," "My Decision Regarding Christ and His Church," "Comprehending Our Pioneer Heritage," and "Music to Ennoble the Soul."
