Republican vice presidential candidate Dan Quayle, right, called on the First Presidency during a visit to Salt Lake City Aug. 26. Quayle and his wife, Marilyn, met for 15 minutes with President Ezra Taft Benson; his counselors, Presidents Gordon B. Hinckley and Thomas S. Monson; and three members of the Council of the Twelve, Elders Russell M. Nelson, David B. Haight and M. Russell Ballard. Church leaders gave the candidate a sculpture depicting parents with a small child, and discussed with him the importance of prayer, family and moral values.
