The study of the Book of Mormon in Sunday School has been a great blessing for Church members, according to Elder Robert L. Simpson of the First Quorum of the Seventy and general Sunday School president. Elder Simpson and his counselors, Elders Devere Harris and Derek A. Cuthbert, also of the First Quorum of the Seventy, issued the following statement concerning the study of the sacred volume of scripture.
"Worldwide study of the Book of Mormon in Sunday School gospel doctrine classes during this past year has been a great blessing for the members of the Church. There has been a marked increase of interest in this year's study of the Book of Mormon in view of President Ezra Taft Benson's timely counsel urging members to renew their reading of this sacred record."It is also noted that Sunday School teachers have placed even greater emphasis on the application of eternal principles in the lives of class members, and have borne their testimonies more frequently to the truthfulness of this inspired scripture. All of this has resulted in class members having strengthened testimonies and renewed determination to live more faithfully.
"When we consider the hundreds of thousands of adults who have been spiritually touched by the Book of Mormon in their gospel doctrine classes this year we are humbled. We are grateful that each year the Sunday School is able to provide the opportunity for all adults in the Church to study systematically the sacred scriptures and thus to increase continually their understanding of gospel truths."
