- A sense of reverence pervaded the Saturday afternoon session, in part due to the performance of the BYU combined choirs, comprising scores of gifted young singers. As they sang the hymn, "If You Could Hie to Kolob," which expresses the awesome nature of eternity and God's creations, Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Council of the Twelve turned in his seat and watched them intently, his lips forming the words they sang.
Contributing to the reverence was the realization that a historic event occurred at this session: the creation of the Second Quorum of the Seventy. Many in the congregation no doubt felt grateful when President Gordon B. Hinckley announced that Elder David B. Haight of the Council of the Twelve was present at the session after a long convalescence from surgery.
Elder Paul H. Dunn of the First Quorum of the Seventy offered the invocation, and Elder F. Aldin Porter of the newly created Second Quorum of the Seventy gave the benediction.
