A renewed focus for members "to come unto Christ through the mission of the Church" was emphasized Friday, March 31 at the annual Regional Representatives Seminar.
"Today," said President Howard W. Hunter, who conducted the meeting, "we are not instructing anything essentially new, but simply re-emphasizing that which we have previously taught."President Ezra Taft Benson attended the seminar in the auditorium of the Church Office Building, which is held each April in connection with general conference to train the regional representatives who gather from throughout the world.
Speakers at the seminar were President Gordon B. Hinckley, first counselor in the First Presidency; President Thomas S. Monson, second counselor in the First Presidency; and President Hunter, president of the Council of the Twelve.
Also participating were Council of the Twelve members of the three executive councils of the Church, the Temple and Family History Executive Council, Missionary Executive Council, and Priesthood Executive Council.
Representing the councils in giving instructions were Elder Boyd K. Packer, Elder Marvin J. Ashton, Elder L. Tom Perry, Elder James E. Faust, Elder Neal A. Maxwell, Elder Russell M. Nelson, and Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin.
They spoke about temple activity, activation, conversion and retention, ministering by Melchizedek Priesthood quorum or group leaders, and growth through priesthood quorum committees.
The formation of such committees (see chart on the next page for a suggested approach to organizing committees according to the mission of the Church) gives priesthood holders the opportunity to participate in meaningful service.
In addition, emphasis was placed on recognizing the supporting work of the auxiliaries, especially those headed by the leaders of the Primary, Young Women and Relief Society.
