By remembering what she had read in the Family Home Evening Resource Book and had seen on television, a young Moroni mother saved the life of her child who had a penny lodged in her throat.

The older children of Lisa Dye Frandsen had been playing with coins on the living room floor of their home. Sister Frandsen had scoured the floor in an effort to make sure all of the coins had been picked up.Later, she noticed her daughter Jana Lee, age 13 months, pick something off the floor and put it into her mouth. As two other daughters, Ashley and Joni, checked to see what had gone into her mouth, the baby swallowed what turned out to be a penny.

Jana Lee began choking, and Sister Frandsen ran to her aid. She could feel the penny lodged in the back of her throat, but could not get it out.

She remembered the detailed pictures of the Heimlich maneuver in the back of her Family Home Evening Resource Book and recalled seeing the technique performed on television.

Sister Frandsen picked up her baby, put her over her arm and applied the Heimlich. The penny popped out of the baby's mouth, and she began to breathe.

Sister Frandsen was grateful for the manual, which proved to be more valuable than she could have imagined.
