BYU became only the third school in NCAA Division I history to win 100 football games in a decade. The Cougars reached the milestone with a 44-35 victory over the Air Force Academy Nov. 11.

Other schools winning 100 games in a decade were the University of Alabama in the 1970s and the University of Nebraska in the 1980s.BYU is 100-26 in the '80s. All wins have come under head coach Lavell Edwards, who assumed the reins of the Cougar football program in 1972. Edwards' lifetime record as a head coach, accumulated during his 17 years at BYU, is 163-55-1.

The Cougars have the opportunity to better their 100-win record with two regular season games and a possible bowl contest left to play this year.

BYU is 8-2 this season and leads the Western Athletic Conference with a 5-1 mark. Victories in the Cougars' final two conference games would guarantee a trip to the Holiday Bowl in San Diego, Calif.

Spearheading BYU is sophomore quarterback Ty Detmer, who leads the nation in passing with an efficiency rating of 169.2, and is second in total offense, averaging 372.7 yards a game. As a team, BYU is second nationally in passing, third in total offense and seventh in scoring.
