Dedication of the Carthage Jail complex was the first of several events and projects commemorating the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the Mormons in Illinois in 1839.
Other projects to be completed in Nauvoo include:- Refurbishing the seven-acre Pioneer Saints Cemetery, which was recently acquired from the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
- Reconstructing the A. Hamer Reiser Cobbler shop on its original site.
- Rebuilding the Stoddard Tinsmith Shop.
- Building of a barn that will include public restrooms.
Elder Loren C. Dunn of the First Quorum of the Seventy and president of Nauvoo Restoration Inc., said the four projects will be dedicated after they are completed this summer.
With the completion of these projects, no further restoration is planned in the Nauvoo area, said Elder Dunn.
