Joseph and Emma Smith are finally learning the gospel.
The couple, along with their three children, welcomed the missionaries into their home after meeting Elder Harold and Sister Marilyn Kearl, public communications missionaries in the Philippines Cagayan de Oro City Mission."I met him in the parking lot by a seaside hotel and he introduced himself as Joseph Smith," Elder Kearl recalled. "I was so surprised. I called to Sister Kearl standing nearby and introduced her to Joseph Smith."
The surprises didn't stop there. Joseph, born and raised in England, then introduced his Filipino wife, Emma.
"We were spellbound and informed them about the Prophet Joseph Smith, whose wife was named Emma," explained Elder Kearl.
The missionary couple, who have personally distributed 1,800 copies of the Book of Mormon to people in this region, presented the Smiths with their personal copy of the scripture. Smith, who had studied religion in Liverpool, England, was familiar with the book. However, this was the first time he had received a copy.
After accepting the book, the Smiths consented to have missionaries visit them.
