President Ezra Taft Benson's admonition in the October 1988 general conference that members should "flood the earth" with the Book of Mormon has created a flood of excitement in the Australia Brisbane Mission.

Under direction of Mission Pres. Robert G. West, a large scroll was designed in the style of a legal proclamation, which all missionaries signed proclaiming their unanimous decision to support the prophet. The missionaries' enthusiasm for teaching others of the Book of Mormon has spread among members. During a tour of mission branches, Elder F. Arthur Kay of the First Quorum of the Seventy and president of the Pacific Area and Pres. West discussed in district and zone conferences the importance of following the prophet.

Among those responding were members in the Townsville Australia District, who prepared 25,000 flyers to distribute to homes throughout the city. The purpose of the flyers was to help introduce the Book of Mormon to the citizens of Townsville.

"These flyers can become automatic referrals for the missionaries who will deliver copies of the Book of Mormon," District Pres. Graham Raymond Kneale said of the project.

A particularly successful "flooding" project occurred when eight missionaries were invited to a private school to participate in the school's comparative religious studies. At the end of a 40-minute class session, 94 students requested copies of the Book of Mormon.

Ward firesides are organized by stake and full-time missionaries for member missionaries to assist in marking copies of the Book of Mormon and pasting questions in the back of the book. Members then commit to support the "flood the earth" program.

Pres. West said, "As I listened to and read President Benson's address during last October's conference, I felt as though I were listening to all the prophets of old wrapped up into one. The humility, power, authority, directions, and the prophetic nature were all evident.

"How blessed we are to have a living prophet on earth today . . . . We will flood the earth!"
