The Oakland Temple escaped with only a few minor cracks in the Oct. 17 earthquake that shook the Oakland area, said Elder Gene R. Cook of the First Quorum of the Seventy.

Elder Cook, president of the North America West Area, said several cracks were detected at the temple, which sits on a hill overlooking San Francisco Bay.Most other Church buildings in the quake zone also fared well. Of about 75 buildings that were inspected, some 65 were unscathed, eight had minor problems, such as falling light fixtures, and two or three had shifted walls or deeper cracks, reported Elder Cook.
