"A Pioneer Profiles Christmas" will be enacted at the Museum of Church History and Art on Dec. 18 and 20 at 7 and 8 p.m. in the museum theater.

Pioneer characters, portrayed by museum volunteers dressed in authentically re-created period clothing, relate the joys and sorrows of the early Christmases spent in the Salt Lake Valley as they participate in a typical Christmas party, said Jennifer L. Lund, museum education coordinator.Using diaries, reminiscences, and newspaper accounts, the characters recreate the spirit and activities of the 19th Century yuletide celebrations. The individuals portrayed in the program were pioneers who lived in the Salt Lake Valley after their arrival in Utah between 1847 and 1855.

The performances are free, but seats must be reserved in advance by calling (801) 240-2299.

In the museum theater on Mondays from 7 to 8 p.m. the same characters regularly present short vignettes of pioneer life.
