Bruce L. Olsen, managing director of Public Communications/Special Affairs for the Church, issued the following statement Dec. 11 on behalf of Church leaders:
"We were saddened to learn of the death of Armand Hammer and express our condolences and sympathy to his family. Dr. Hammer lived a long life full of concern for others."The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was pleased to join hands with Dr. Hammer and others in the efforts of the American-Armenian Bridge of Friendship to provide relief to the victims of the 1988 earthquake in Armenia. That humanitarian service, to which Dr. Hammer gave his generous support, was typical of his life in which he often not only saw opportunties to do good but, more importantly, set about doing good."
Hammer, 92, died at his home in Los Angeles Dec. 10 after a brief illness.
