Chad Meyer, a Life Scout and priest in the Kaunakakai Ward, Kahului Hawaii Stake, was driving home alone after a recent high school basketball game when he noticed a flash of light reflected from the opposite side of the road.
He slowed and investigated, and found an elderly man lying injured on the roadside. His damaged, small motorbike lay nearby."I immediately recognized him as an old friend of my father's," said Chad.
Chad gently helped the man off the highway and treated him for shock using Scout first aid. He then hurried to his nearby home to summon help.
Chad quickly returned to the accident scene with blankets. He knelt by the injured man and talked with him until the police and ambulance arrived and took the injured man to the hospital.
"This incident made me realize how thankful I am for the Scouting program and how we should . . . be prepared for the real, unexpected incidents," said Chad. "The feeling of helping someone in need was immense." - Elder Allen H. Lundgren, Hawaii Honolulu Mission
