Church members in Alabama, Florida and Georgia escaped serious injury and severe damage from heavy rains and flooding, a Church official said March 20, but he added that the worst is not over yet.

Michael Robbins, agency manager of LDS Social Services in the Church's North America Southeast Area office in Atlanta, Ga., said, "We have found that many members of the Church have been affected, but nobody has really received extensive damage. Most all of the problems are being handled locally by bishops and Melchizedek Priesthood leaders."In some cases, rising rivers would not reach their crest for a couple of days, he added.

The floods have forced thousands of evacuations and caused at least 13 deaths.
