Church members in Rotterdam, Haarlem, The Hague, Hilversum and surrounding communities had overwhelming success gathering food parcels for the needy in Romania.
According to Robert Kirschbaum, Netherlands public communications director, the effort spread beyond members and involved people of many faiths and backgrounds.Kirschbaum said thousands of people stopped at LDS meetinghouses to donate goods and to thank members for organizing the project.
The effort was widely publicized through the local media, which showed many pictures of volunteers collecting goods, and of cultural halls entirely filled with items.
A non-profit charitable organization received government money to transport the goods to Romania. The team effort between that group and the Church resulted in the shipment of 12 large truckloads of goods to the needy.
