Pres. Benson still in hospital, listed 'serious'

Early Thursday, Oct. 4, President Ezra Taft Benson was listed in serious but stable condition at LDS Hospital where he has been hospitalized since Sept. 18.

He has been given several units of blood since gastrointestinal bleeding was detected Sunday, Sept. 30.President Benson, 91, underwent surgery Sept. 19 and again Sept. 22. During the first surgery, two subdural hematomas were removed from his skull. The second surgery was performed to remove a blood clot from the left side of his brain. (See Church News Sept. 22 and Sept. 29.)

On Sept. 26, President Benson's condition was upgraded to fair and he later was moved from the hospital's intensive care unit to a private hospital room. On Sept. 30, however, he was returned to intensive care, where his condition has been listed as serious.
