For the first time in Argentina's history, a member of the Church is serving in the national parliament, similar to the House of Representatives in the United States.
Roberto A. Cruz of the Ramos Mejia 2nd Ward, Buenos Aires Argentina West Stake, is a member of the Chamber of Deputies. He was appointed to replace Dr. Guido Di Tella, who was named ambassador to the United States.Cruz, 35, was baptized into the Church in 1978 and has served as Young Men president, bishop's counselor and bishop. He and his wife, Yolanda Toteda de Cruz, were sealed in the Sao Paulo Temple in 1980.
Regarding his duties in the national Chamber of Deputies, he said, "I believe that this is a great opportunity to serve my homeland and defend correct principles that will benefit my fellow citizens and the future of our nation."
He is a member of the Economics, Minorities and Families, and Communications committees in the legislative body.
