It was a busy weekend for President Ezra Taft Benson, who turned 91 Saturday, Aug. 4.

At a reception in their home Friday, Aug. 3, President Benson, and his wife, Flora, were seated in comfortable chairs to welcome birthday well-wishers during the hour-long reception.Calling on President Benson and offering birthday greetings were his counselors, President Gordon B. Hinckley and President Thomas S. Monson, and their wives, Marjorie Hinckley and Frances Monson; and members of the Council of the Twelve, most of whom were accompanied by their wives.

Adding a festive touch to the reception, Michael F. Moody of the Church Music Department played on the piano a wide selection of "old favorites" that President and Sister Benson have enjoyed through the years. They used to harmonize renditions of such favorites as "When It's Springtime in the Rockies" and "Love's Old Sweet Song." At the reception, Sister Benson quietly sang the words of some of the songs.

President and Sister Benson spent Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 4 and 5 with family members, including sons and daughters and their spouses, grandchildren, and a sister.

In the days preceding and immediately following his birthday, President Benson enjoyed reading cards and letters sent to him.

Numerous Primary children sent original drawings and poems. Quite a large number mentioned their birthdays also were on Aug. 4. President Benson was particularly delighted that many children wrote they were being baptized on his birthday.

The Church News has been asked to convey President Benson's appreciation to all those who sent birthday greetings.
