Patrick D. Dalton, a professor emeritus of BYU-Hawaii and former mission president in Tonga, has been called as president of the Nuku'alofa Tonga Temple. He will succeed Semisi N. Tonga, who died Nov. 24, 1989.

His wife, Lela Jesperson Dalton, will be temple matron. The couple is currently serving as Church service workers in education at the LDS Fiji Techincal College. Pres. Dalton was president of the Tonga Mission from 1963-66, and they filled an education mission in Tonga from 1953-55.He began teaching at the Church College of Hawaii in 1955 as it was known at its founding then, and has represented the college in various service and professional organizations.

He has received many citations for his educational and community service, including one for serving 50 years in the Boy Scouts of America.

Sister Dalton is a former stake Relief Society president and stake Relief Society secretary. Members of the Salt Lake Butler 29th Ward, they are the parents of three children.
