President Howard W. Hunter of the Council of the Twelve observed his 83rd birthday Wednesday, Nov. 14, while on Church business in the South Pacific.
President Hunter spent his birthday in Hamilton, New Zealand. he and his wife, Inis, later traveled to Auckland, New Zealand, and planned to continue on to Sydney, Australia, before returning to Salt Lake City.The Church leader went to the South Pacific to preside over conferences of the Church in New Zealand and Australia, Church spokesman said.
President Hunter has been a member of the Council of the Twelve since Octo. 10, 1959. He was acting president of the Council of the Twelve from Nov. 10, 1985, until June 2, 1988, when he was set apart as president of the Council of the Twelve after the death of President Marion G. Romney.
