Priesthood leaders are responsible for helping returning missionaries make adjustments after full-time missionary service. The brochure The Returned Missionary (PBMP000A; n/c) provides guidelines for mission presidents, stake presidents, bishops and branch presidents, and elders quorum presidents to follow.

Returned missionaries should be asked to speak in sacrament meetings, called to meaningful Church positions, and encouraged to continue to study the scriptures, pray, and always be worthy of a temple recommend.Returned missionaries, with their enthusiasm for missionary work, may be called as stake missionaries, or may work with stake missionaries to help them prepare people for missionary discussions. They should also be encouraged to obtain an education and prepare themselves for service to the community and the Church.

Relief Society presidents can be a help in the adjustment of returning lady missionaries as they welcome them back into Relief Society. Relief Society presidents in consultations with the bishop can make sure lady missionaries are called into challenging Church assignments and meaningful service in Relief Society.
