Prophets, both ancient and contemporary, have testified about the birth of the Christ and His mortal mission. Here is a sampling of quotations from scriptures and other statements.

Old Testament- "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." - Isa. 7:14.

New Testament

- "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." - John 1:14.

Book of Mormon

- "And he said unto me: Behold, the virgin whom thou seest is the mother of the Son of God, after the manner of the flesh.

"And it came to pass that I beheld that she was carried away in the Spirit; and after she had been carried away in the Spirit for the space of a time the angel spake unto me, saying: Look!

"And I looked and beheld the virgin again, bearing a child in her arms.

"And the angel said unto me: Behold the Lamb of God, yea, even the Son of the Eternal Father!" - 1 Ne. 11:18-21.

"Therefore, there shall be one day and a night and a day, as if it were one day and there were no night; and this shall be unto you for a sign; for ye shall know of the rising of the sun and also of its setting; therefore they shall know of a surety that there shall be two days and a night; nevertheless the night shall not be darkened; and it shall be the night before he is born.

"And behold, there shall a new star arise, such an one as ye never have beheld; and this also shall be a sign unto you.

"And behold this is not all, there shall be many signs and wonders in heaven.

"And it shall come to pass that ye shall all be amazed, and wonder, insomuch that ye shall fall to the earth.

"And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall believe on the Son of God, the same shall have everlasting life." - Hel. 14:4-8.Doctrine and Covenants

- "And this is the gospel, the glad tidings, which the voice out of the heavens bore record unto us -

"That he came into the world, even Jesus, to be crucified for the world, and to bear the sins of the world, and to sanctify the world, and to cleanse it from all unrighteousness;" - D&C 76:40:41.Pearl of Great Price

- "For they would not hearken unto his voice, nor believe on his Only Begotten Son, even him whom he declared should come in the meridian of time, who was prepared from before the foundation of the world." - Moses 5:58.Statements from latter-day prophets

- "I have always looked upon the life of our Savior - who descended beneath all things that He might rise above all things - as an example for His followers. And yet it has always, in one sense of the word, seemed strange to me that the Son of God, the First Begotten in the eternal worlds of the Father, and the Only Begotten in the flesh, should have to descend to the earth and pass through what He did - born in a stable, cradled in a manger, persecuted, afflicted, scorned, a hiss and a byword to almost all the world, and especially to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and Judea. . . . There is something about all this that appears sorrowful; but it seemed necessary for the Savior to descend below all things that He might ascend above all things." - President Wilford Woodruff in Journal of Discourses 23:327.

- "Jesus of Nazareth was the one who, before the world was created, was chosen to come to earth to perform this service, to conquer mortal death. . . .

"Jesus Christ has influenced humanity more than anyone else who ever lived. Born in a manger of an earthly mother and a Heavenly Father, He lived on earth for 33 years. . . .

". . . He healed the sick, restored sight to the blind, cast out evil spirits, restored life to the dead, provided comfort to the oppressed, spread the good news of the gospel of love, testified of the Father, taught the eternal plan of salvation, and laid the groundwork for an organization that would provide for the salvation of man - His church." - President Spencer W. Kimball, April 1978 General Conference.

- "Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He came to this earth at a foreappointed time through a royal birthright that preserved His godhood. Combined in His nature were the human attributes of His mortal mother and the divine attributes and power of His Eternal Father. As the Son of God, He inherited powers and intelligence that no human has ever had before or since. He was literally Immanuel, which means `God with us.' " - President Ezra Taft Benson in The Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, pages 7-8.
