Ralph John Richards, 71, a former mission president in Tahiti, called as president of the Papeete Tahiti Temple, succeeding Pres. Fernand J. Caumet. His wife, Marian MacDonald Richards, will be temple matron. Pres. Richards is a former translator for the Church and was traveling secretary to President David O. McKay. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He and his wife most recently have served as temple missionaries to New Zealand and Tahiti. He has served as Scouting leader, stake missionary, high councilor, and counselor in branch and district presidencies. Married Shauna Salisbury, six children; she died in 1985; married Marian MacDonald in 1988. She has served as ward Relief Society teacher and president, YWMIA president, and served two years as volunteer in Church membership department; she has four children.
