Ricks College women's volleyball and cross country teams placed second nationally to end successful seasons.
Battling through the losers bracket, the volleyball team was second at the National Junior College Athletic Association finals in Miami, Fla., Nov. 19-21. The runner-up finish is the highest for the Ricks women since they captured the national championship in 1974.Two members of the Ricks' team, sophomore setter Amie Roberts of Bonita, Calif., and freshman hitter Diana Berrett of Rigby, Idaho, were named to the national all-tournament team.
In cross country, six young women earned All-America honors Nov. 17 at Brevard, N.C., in the NJCAA cross country championship. The six combined for a second-place team finish after winning the title the past two years.
To earn All-America honors, a runner must place in the top 25 of the 150 competing.
The six Ricks All-America runners are Elizabeth Humphreys, Idaho Falls, Idaho, sixth place; Heidi Smith, Springville, Utah, eighth; Shelley Hill, Chesterfield, Mo., 11th; Kristen Galbraith, Sugar City, Idaho, 12th; Kim McFadden, Greeley, Colo., 16th; and Jenny Buchanan, Elk, Wash., 24th.
