Scheduled tours at the Museum of Church History and Art in downtown Salt Lake City for 1989 were the highest in the six-year history of the facility.

Museum director Glen M. Leonard said the 1989 total of advance-notice groups was 374, compared to 268 for 1988.A total of 9,590 people visited the museum last year on pre-scheduled tours. Overall 1989 attendance at the museum was 161,196.

Visitors attending the popular historical puppet shows increased last year when 534 presentations were made, as compared to 442 in 1988.

The current puppet show is about children in the pioneer handcart companies of the mid-19th century, Leonard said.

"It illustrates the sacrifices that were made and the important things that had to be left behind," he said.

A total of 9,265 saw the puppet shows during 1989.
