The body of an LDS missionary was found June 2 in the Kootenai River, nearly a month after he apparently fell into the runoff-swollen river near here.

Lonnie Ekstrom, chief deputy for the Boundary County Sheriff's office, said the body of Elder Jon Christian Neilsen was found floating in the river about four miles east of Bonners Ferry.Elder Neilsen, 19, of Riverton, Utah, was hiking in the Moyie River Canyon May 7 with three fellow missionaries when he was last seen.

No one saw him fall into the river, but the missionary's companions last saw him standing on rocks protruding above the water, about 12 miles east of Bonners Ferry.
