The First Presidency has announced the calling of 10 new mission presidents. They will be assigned to specific missions later and, along with their wives, will assume their positions around July 1. The mission presidents are:

David L. Bailey, 49, Layton 27th Ward, Layton Utah North Stake; high councilor, former bishop, branch president and gospel doctrine teacher; president of consulting firm; received bachelor's and master's degrees from Utah State University; born in Moroni, Utah, a son of Wesley Parker and Vivian Lamb Fox Bailey; married Connie Morley; four children. She is Primary chorister, former Relief Society president and counselor, Sunday School teacher, Relief Society teacher, and Relief Society chorister; born in Moroni, Utah, a daughter of Leo Mack and Ora Loy Oldroyd Morley.John Henry Cox, 48, Farmington 6th Ward, Farmington Utah Stake; Young Men general board member, former regional representative, stake president, bishop, district president and branch president; director of ecclesiastical support of Church Welfare Services; obtained chartered engineer degree from Southall College of Technology in England; born in Dorking, England, a son of William Edward and Ethel May Bailey Cox; married Elizabeth Mary Iris O'Brien; two children. She is Sunday School teacher, former stake and ward Young Women president, ward Primary president, and Relief Society president; born in La Peche, Quebec, a daughter of Michael Leo and Stella Driscoll O'Brien.

Roland Douglas Holt, 40, Tucson 24th Ward, Tucson Arizona Rincon Stake; stake president's counselor, former mission president's counselor, stake mission president, high councilor, bishop and counselor; served in the Brazil North Mission, 1969-71; attorney; received bachelor's degree from University of Utah and juris doctorate from University of Arizona; born in Palo Alto, Calif., a son of Roland Anderson and LaFawn Carol Graff Holt; married Diana Bird; two children. She is visiting teacher, former Relief Society teacher, Primary teacher, Mia Maid adviser, Primary inservice leader, and gospel doctrine teacher; born in Salt Lake City, a daughter of Earl Clark and Ruth Chadwich Bird.

Keith Hale Hoopes, 59, Edgemont 11th Ward, Provo Utah Edgemont South Stake; gospel doctrine teacher, former stake president, bishop and counselor, executive secretary and seminary teacher; animal science professor at BYU; received bachelor's degree from Utah State University and master's degree from Washington State University; born in Fairview, Wyo., a son of Vernon and Izora Hale Hoopes; married Shirlene D. Griffeth; seven children. She is Relief Society president, former Primary president, Primary organist, Primary teacher, Young Women teacher, and Cub Scout leader; born in Preston, Idaho, a daughter of Melvin Pratt and Lois Daines Griffeth.

Gordon Everard Mills, 49, Spanish Fork 18th Ward, Spanish Fork Utah South Stake; Scoutmaster, former high councilor, bishop's counselor, ward executive secretary, high priests group leader, and branch president; served in Canadian Mission, 1960-62; associate professor of organizational behavior at BYU; received bachelor's and master's degrees from BYU and doctorate from Pennsylvania State University; born in Salt Lake City, a son of Clinton Linnis Mills (deceased) and Ann Thorley Mills Cox; married Ila Joan Toronto; six children. She is Sunday School teacher, stake Relief Society president, stake MIA president, Young Women president's counselor, Relief Society president's counselor, and Young Women adviser; born in Richfield, Utah, a daughter of Joseph Young and Ila Christensen Toronto.

Jack Kenneth Nielsen, 43, Timpanogos Park 4th Ward, Orem Utah North Stake; LDS counseling specialist at Utah State Prison, former high councilor, bishop's counselor, branch president and Young Men president; served mission in Argentina, 1966-68; seminary teacher; earned bachelor's and master's degrees from BYU, studied for doctorate at Indiana University; born in Salina, Utah, a son of Kenneth Martin and Annie Iris Fitt Nielsen; married Trudy Taylor; eight children. She is Primary president's counselor, former stake and ward Young Women president's counselor, Relief Society president's counselor, ward Relief Society teacher, Primary teacher and chorister; born in Dragerton, Utah, a daughter of Glade Washington and Edna Ellett Taylor.

Robert Douglas Phillips, 59, Provo 21st Ward, Provo Utah North Stake; branch president at Missionary Training Center, former high councilor, bishop and counselor, and elders quorum president; served mission in Japan, 1950-53; professor of classics at BYU; earned bachelor's degree at BYU and doctorate at University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana; born in Lehi, Utah, a son of Robert Leonard and Blanche Olive Child Phillips; married Margarete Ruth Waschulczick; five children. She is working with husband in assignment at Missionary Training Center, former stake welfare board member, stake MIA board member, ward Relief Society president's counselor, Primary president's counselor, visiting teacher coordinator, Primary teacher, and Relief Society teacher; served in the Northern States Mission, 1956-57; born in Paulshagen, Germany, a daughter of Wilhelm and Martha Kozianka Waschulczick.

Derrill Hunt Richards, 62, Ensign 1st Ward, Salt Lake Ensign Stake; home teacher, former stake president's counselor, bishop, district president, and branch president; served mission in Canada, 1947-49, and in Europe, 1988-89; retired; earned bachelor's degree from University of Utah; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, a son of Ezra Foss and Mertie Malinda Hunt Richards; married Colleen Germer; six children. She is a Relief Society teacher and visiting teacher, former stake Relief Society board member, Relief Society president's counselor, YWMIA president's counselor, and Relief Society teacher; born in Brigham City, Utah, a daughter of Jack Edwin and Bernice Nichols Germer.

Walter LeGrand Whipple Jr., 46, Oak Hills 4th Ward, Provo Utah Oak Hills Stake; Scoutmaster and deacons quorum adviser, former high councilor, bishop's counselor, and seminary teacher; served in the Switzerland Zurich Mission, 1963-65; music professor at Rockford College; earned bachelor's and master's degrees from BYU and doctorate from University of Southern California; born in Logan, Utah, a son of Walter LeGrand and Erline Atkinson Whipple; married Mary Sowby; two children. She is Boy Scout troop advancement chairman, former stake Young Women president and ward Relief Society president; served in Switzerland Zurich Mission, 1966-68; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, a daughter of Lawrence M. and Wilma Bennett Sowby.

Edgar Wolferts, 47, College Station Ward, College Station Texas Stake; gospel essentials teacher, former stake president's counselor, high councilor, stake mission president, stake seventies president, and ward executive secretary; served in the Netherlands Mission, 1963-65; Church Educational System institute director; received bachelor's and master's degrees from BYU; born in Wuppertal, Germany, a son of Hans Herbert and Johanna Elisabeth Schwarz Wolferts; married Jane Bos; six children. She is stake library director and Primary inservice leader, former stake Relief Society president's secretary, ward Primary president's counselor, Relief Society teacher, and ward librarian; born in Groningen, Netherlands, a daughter of Heine and Henny Van Komen Bos.
