The First Presidency has announced the calling of 10 new mission presidents. They will be assigned to specific missions later and, along with their wives, will assume their positions around July 1. The mission presidents are:
Julio Enrique Alvarado G., 39, El Tesoro Ward, Utatlan Guatemala Stake; region executive secretary and temple sealer, former stake president's counselor, stake executive secretary, and bishop; served a mission in Central America, 1971-1973; businessman; received accounting degree from business school and did graduate work at the University of San Carlos; born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, a son of Jose Miguel and Faustina Guoz Alvarado; married Blanca Estela Barrientos P.; three children. She is a Relief Society teacher and temple worker, former stake Relief Society president, stake Young Women president's counselor, and ward Young Women president; born in Guastatoya, Guatemala, a daughter of Julio Vicente and Elsa Estela Pellecer Barrientos.
Athos Marques de Amorim, 57, Resende Manejo Branch, Brazil Dutra District; branch president, former branch president and counselor, and Sunday School teacher; Army colonel; graduated from military academy; born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a son of Antonio and Maria Carlota Martins Ferreira Marques de Amorim; married Maria Alice Barcellos Pires Ferrao; two children. She is counselor and teacher in Relief Society, former Relief Society president, Young Women secretary, Primary teacher, and seminary teacher; born in Ponta Pora, Brazil, a daughter of Djacyr and Hylda Amaral Barcellos Pires Ferrao.
Melvin Garfield Cook, 49, Monument Park 12th Ward, Salt Lake Monument Park Stake; bishop, former high councilor, high priests group leader, gospel doctrine teacher, and elders quorum president; served mission in Germany, 1960-62; chairman and CEO of medical technology corporation; received bachelor's degree from University of Utah; born in Woodbury, N.J., a son of Melvin Alonzo and Wanda Garfield Cook; married Margo Dawn Taylor; nine children. She is Primary teacher, former Sunday School teacher, stake cultural arts leader, Relief Society homemaking leader and stake heritage day leader; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, a daughter of LeRoy Parkin and JoAnn Edmonds Taylor.
Teodoro Hoffmann I., 46, Naguanagua Ward, Valencia Venezuela Stake; bishop, former mission president's counselor, stake president, and bishop; accountant; received technical accountant degree from University of La Salle; born in Wels, Austria, a son of Bartolomeus Rudolf and Anna Ilica Hoffmann; married Estela Margarita Aumaitre; four children. She is Young Women president, former stake Relief Society president's counselor, ward Relief Society president, seminary teacher, Relief Society teacher, and Teacher Development instructor; born in Caracas, Venezuela, a daughter of David Bendayan and Mercedes Margarita Aumaitre.
Wilfredo R. Lopez G., 43, Independencia Ward, Santiago Chile Independencia Stake; regional representative, former stake president and counselor, stake mission leader, and ward mission leader; Church Educational System employee; born in Chillan, Chile, a son of Rene and Olga Barces Lopez; married Patricia Angelica Palavecino Rojas; seven children. She is Primary president's counselor, former Young Women president, seminary teacher, and Relief Society teacher; born in Talca, Chile, a daughter of Jose and Raquel Rojas Palavecino.
Larry Vernon Lunt, 46, Holladay 10th Ward, Salt Lake Holladay Stake; stake president's counselor, former high councilor, bishop, and elders quorum president; served in the London England Mission, 1963-65; attorney and developer; received bachelor's and juris doctorate degrees from University of Utah; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, a son of George Vernon and Rachel Petty Lunt; married Susan Child; six children. She is Primary president's counselor, former Young Women president and counselor, Relief Society president's counselor, teacher in Primary, Relief Society and Young Women, and Webelos leader; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, a daughter of Richard Harold and Virgie Minnoch Child.
Francisco Pineda S., 39, Amalucan 1st Ward, Puebla Fuertes Mexico Stake; regional representative and seminary teacher, former stake president and counselor; export and import transporter; earned bachelor's degree and accounting degree; born in Puebla, Mexico, a son of David and Ema Salazar A. Pineda; married Ana Maria Robles R.; four children. She is a seminary teacher, former ward Relief Society president's counselor, Relief Society and Sunday School teacher; born in Puebla, Mexico, a daughter of Manuel and Maria Elena R. Robles.
Kenneth Dudley Reber, 48, Union 11th Ward, Sandy Utah Cottonwood Creek Stake; stake president's counselor, former high councilor, stake and ward Young Men president, bishop, Sunday School teacher and ward music chairman; served in West German Mission, 1961-64; life insurance agent; received bachelor's degree from BYU and master's degree from Arizona State University; born in Overton, Nev., a son of Leonard and Daisy Leavitt Reber; married Janet Dahl; eight children. She is den mother, former stake Young Women president, stake Young Women and Primary board member, ward Relief Society president's counselor, Primary president's counselor, regional sports director, and Primary chorister; born in St. George, Utah, a daughter of Clarence Peter and Pheby Crawford Dahl.
Seiichiro Utagawa, 38, Tama Ward, Tokyo Japan West Stake; stake president's counselor, former mission president's counselor, high councilor, bishop, and branch president; served in Japan Nagoya Mission, 1975-77; special translation project assistant manager in Church Administration Office; received bachelor's degree from Tokyo University; born in Shinagawa-ku, Japan, a son of Seiji and Chiyoko Furuya Utagawa; married Mayumi Ikari; four children. She is stake Primary president's counselor, former stake missionary, ward Relief Society president, Primary president, and Young Women president; born in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, a daughter of Terumi and Kyoko Nouchi Ikari.
Kenneth Stanley Wilson, 66, Sutherland Ward, Sydney Australia Mortdale Stake; currently serving as missionary in Nigeria Aba Mission, former high councilor, stake Single Adults adviser, Sunday School president, and elders quorum president's counselor; studied accounting at the Australian Society of Accountants; born in Birmingham, England, a son of Sydney Charles and Annie May Johnson Wilson; married Jacqueline Warwick; four children. She is currently serving as missionary in Nigeria Aba Mission, former stake Primary president and counselor, stake Relief Society president and counselor, ward Young Women president, Primary president, and Relief Society president's counselor; born in Kogarah, Australia, a daughter of Reginald George Henry and Alice Tanner Warwick.
