- Family: Born May 23, 1932, in Bucaramunga, Colombia, to Julio E. Davila Villamicar and Rita Penalosa de Davila. Married Mary Zapata on May 23, 1958; parents of two daughters, Liana and Maritza; two grandchildren.

- Education: Graduated from high school in Cartagena, Colombia, and received education in typography, graphic arts, and journalism in Bogota, Colombia.- Employment: Worked as a typographer, then started his own printing business, which he operated until 1972 when he sold it in order to work for the Church.

- Church service: Branch president, district president, stake president, mission president's counselor, president of the Colombia Cali Mission from 1981-84, regional representative twice.
