BYU women's volleyball coach Elaine Michaelis recently logged her 600th career victory, considered a milestone among collegiate coaches.
Several national publications have declared Coach Michaelis, in her 30th season at BYU, "one of the winningest volleyball coaches in the nation."Though records weren't kept during the first eight years of her coaching career, she has achieved a 79 percent victory mark since national competition began in 1969-70. Her teams have captured championships in each of the four leagues in which she has coached, and she has taken her teams to national championships 19 times, second only to UCLA's 21.
She has served in the Church on the Young Women General Board's sports and fitness committee, and on the general board of the Church Activities Committee. She is currently a region sports director.
She was inducted into the Utah Summer Games Hall of Fame in 1987, and into the Hall of Fame of the Utah Network for Girls and Women in Sports in 1990.
