President Thomas S. Monson's schedule on his 64th birthday on Aug. 21 was pretty much "business as usual."

About the only deviation in the office schedule for the second counselor in the First Presidency was a pause to cut and share birthday cake with a few associates and members of the First Presidency staff who gathered in his office to extend their well wishes. He spent the evening of his birthday enjoying a dinner with his wife, Frances, their children and other family members.President Monson was born Aug. 21, 1927, in Salt Lake City to G. Spencer and Gladys Condie Monson. He was called Nov. 10, 1985, as second counselor to President Ezra Taft Benson. He previously served 22 years in the Council of the Twelve. He was called as an apostle Oct. 4, 1963, at age 36.
