Seven-year-old Gabriel Lemieux knows that the Church is true.

"I know because I feel good in my heart," he said as he shared his testimony during a recent Primary sacrament meeting presentation in the Kirkland Ward, Montreal Quebec Mt. Royale Stake."I know that the prophets, like Joseph Smith, are true prophets and teach of the truth," the young boy said. "I know the Book of Mormon is true. For each of these things I prayed to Heavenly Father and I know that you can have the same result if you ask in prayer."

Gabriel, like many children throughout the Church, will participate this month in the Primary sacrament meeting presentation, the theme of which is "I Can Gain a Testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ."

"We, as Primary leaders, want to help children understand the process by which they can gain a testimony and recognize the blessing of this knowledge in their lives," said Betty Jo N. Jepsen, first counselor in the Primary general presidency who has responsibility over the children's sacrament meeting presentation.

The special presentation summarizes what the children have been taught throughout the year and gives them a chance to share their own experiences and own feelings with their ward and branch families, Sister Jepsen explained.

Each ward and branch receives an outline of the year's theme before the year begins. This way leaders and teachers can focus their teaching on the concepts in the outline that leads to the presentation, she explained.

"We would hope that the leaders would focus on the concepts in their Primary sharing time presentations and also that children throughout the Church would be learning about how to gain a testimony. This way we will unify the children of the Church all over the world."

Instead of the usual booklet describing details of the sacrament meeting presentation, this year each local unit received a two-page outline with concepts to be shared in the program.

The simplified outline better meets the needs of a worldwide Church, Sister Jepsen explained. "The concepts are the same all over the world, but the way that each branch or ward implements the teaching and shares it with their members will be as individual as their own wards and branches are from one another.

"The hope of the Primary general presidency and the board is to build on the previous concepts of children's sacrament meeting presentations, particularly the presentation from several years ago, `I Am a Child of God,' and last year's presentation, `I Belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.'

"We hope children learn that they can have a personal relationship with their Heavenly Father through the blessings of the Spirit. This is a very real influence in our lives and it can help us choose the right. We hope that in Primary and in other settings that they will recognize when they have been prompted, or had prayers answered and that this feeling will be something they will want to have in their lives always."

Sue Beard, Primary president in the Kirkland Ward of the Mt. Royale stake, said the presentation "helps the children focus their lives on a gospel principle and supports the purpose of Primary, which is to learn of and love Jesus Christ. It helps them gain a testimony of that gospel principle, to know it well and to be able to teach it to others."

Terry Smith, Primary president of the Mt. Royale stake, added: "By this time of the year, testimony has such a personal meaning and the children's knowledge has expanded so greatly on having, gaining and keeping a testimony. It is really sweet to observe."

During the past months Sister Smith has witnessed the spiritual growth of the children. "I see an increase in the number of children who want to bear their testimony at fast and testimony meeting and I see in their testimonies a simple heart-felt understanding of what a testimony really is.

"I've seen them, particularly in sharing time, experience delight and happiness and fun in some of the activities while they are learning a very critical and integral part of the gospel at the same time."
