The Church's Humanitarian Services Division recently presented to a hospital in Amman a sophisticated machine that will greatly assist eye surgeons in Jordan in performing delicate operations.
The gift, a new yag ophthalmic laser photodisrupter system, will assure greater surgical success while reducing post-operative complications. The gift was received by Dr. Rizk Rashdan, director general of the University Hospital of the University of Jordan, during a visit by Elder Spencer J. Condie of the Seventy and president of the Europe/Mediterranean Area. Also attending a reception held in conjunction with the presentation of the gift were Senator Mohamed Kamal of the Jordanian Parliament and Dr. Fuad Sayegh, professor and head of the Department of Ophthalmology and director of the Jordan Eye Bank.
The Church's humanitarian services also has provided for the shipment of used medical and dental equipment and clothing to the Jordanian soldier's family welfare society, established to help the culturally and economically deprived to achieve a higher standard of living and a healthier living environment. The society provides primary medical care and employment opportunities for more than 200 individuals who would otherwise be unemployed and impoverished.
