Today, members are counseled that revelation through the Holy Ghost is available to help them understand such scriptures as the Book of Revelation, and to guide them in other matters.

"Revelation is given privately to those who have prepared themselves through obedience and sacrifice," states The Life and Teachings of Jesus and His Apostles, the student manual for institute of religion classes on the New Testament.Speaking in general conference in April 1980, Elder James E. Faust of the Council of the Twelve commented that this "powerful gift [of membershipT entitles the leaders and all worthy members of the Church to enjoy the gifts and companionship of the Holy Ghost, a member of the Godhead whose function is to inspire, reveal, and teach `all things.' (See John 14:26.) The result of this blessing is that for 150 years the leadership and membership of this Church have enjoyed, and now enjoy, continuous revelation and inspiration directing them in what is right and good.

"Inspiration and revelation [in the ChurchT are so widespread, so universal among the leaders and faithful members of this Church that there is a strong spiritual base underlying what is done. This can be found in the gatherings, both large and small.

"Why does this Church grow and flourish? It does so because of divine direction to the leaders and members. . . .

"Joseph Smith said, `No man can receive the Holy Ghost without receiving revelations. The Holy Ghost is a revelator.'

"Revelation was required to establish this Church. Revelation has brought it from its humble beginnings to its present course. Revelation has come like flowing, living water. Continuing revelation will lead it forward to the windup scene."
