"We have much work left to do in the effectiveness of our training of Melchizedek Priesthood leaders," emphasized Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Council of the Twelve. "We have the resources at hand."
Elder Oaks said his words would build on the foundation of President Ezra Taft Benson's 1985 invitation for the wandering members of the Church to come back, and of the 1987 satellite broadcast on the mission of the Church."We believe that the way to approach and overcome the challenges is by improved training and more effective performance by the Melchizedek Priesthood officers and quorums of the Church," Elder Oaks asserted.
Resources for accomplishing that are the scriptures, the Melchizedek Priesthood Leadership Handbook, and the training videocassette, "Putting the Melchizedek Priesthood to Work."
He said that in using the resources, repetition is important.
Introduced by Elder Oaks, Pres. M. Brent Chugg of the North Ogden Utah Ben Lomond Stake told of success in his stake in implementing the Melchizedek Priesthood leadership handbook guidelines to accomplish the mission of the Church.
