SISTER BETTY JO N. JEPSEN OF THE PRIMARY GENERAL PRESIDENCY- Many people coming into the Tabernacle Sunday prior to the concluding session of General Conference were surprised as they were met by a capella singing. Emanating primarily from the balcony were the strains of well-known hymns including "We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet," "I Am a Child of God," "I Know That My Redeemer Lives," and others.
Midway through the final impromptu number, "The Spirit of God," Tabernacle Choir organist Richard Elliott chimed in with organ accompaniment, to the delight of all. Virtually the entire congregation joined in singing the concluding chorus. Brother Elliott's quiet prelude then set a reverent tone for an uplifting session, begun by the Tabernacle Choir's singing of "High on the Mountain Top," directed by Jerold Ottley. A moving conclusion to the session, conducted by President Gordon B. Hinckley, was the choir's soothing rendition of "God So Loved the World." Prayers were offered by Elder Glen L. Rudd and Elder Lynn A. Sorensen, both released Saturday from the Second Quorum of the Seventy.
