THROUGH THOSE IN TUNE COME `MIGHTY MIRACLES'

"EVERY CALL TO SERVE IS A HUMAN DRAMA IN THE LIFE OF THE RECIPIENT," SAID PRESIDENT THOMAS S. MONSON AT THE PRIESTHOOD SESSION SATURDAY EVENING.

PRESIDENT MONSON, SECOND COUNSELOR IN THE FIRST PRESIDENCY, ILLUSTRATED WITH HUMOR AND HEARTWARMING STORIES EXAMPLES OF HOW RESPONDING TO CALLS HAD MADE A POWERFUL IMPACT ON LIVES.President Monson noted that in each case, where members had been obedient to their calls, each received happiness.

He presented as a model in responding to a call the example of the boy Samuel in the Old Testament.

"Most of you young men will one day receive a call to serve a mission," said President Monson. "How I pray that your response will be as Samuel's: `Here am I. . . . Speak; for thy servant heareth.' Then will heavenly help be yours."

President Monson encouraged fathers and grandfathers to read the scriptures to their sons and grandsons. Returned missionaries should give messages and live in such a way as to inspire others to serve.

"Brethren, are we sufficiently in tune with the Spirit that when the Lord calls, we can hear, as did Samuel, and declare, `Here am I?' Do we have the fortitude, do we have the faith, whatever our callings, to serve with unflinching courage and unshakable resolve? When we do, the Lord can work His mighty miracles through us."

President Monson told of a member, William D. Taylor, who answered an inner voice to provide more than 101,000 names of Civil War soldiers for temple work. Brother Taylor reported in a letter to President Monson, "It brings me joy unparalleled to anything I have ever known."

"Brother Taylor," said President Monson in his address, "I salute you for your leadership in bringing eternal blessings to your `troops' who must indeed call your name blessed."

President Monson also paid tribute to the many members who helped others during the aftermath of the hurricanes in Florida and Hawaii.
