Efforts by Church members to help out where needed in the wake of the recent hurricane have brought an unexpected result.

Larry Bynum, a high councilor in the Winter Haven Florida Stake who is involved in relief efforts, said two or three families walked into the Homestead meetinghouse and said, "We want to join your Church."The inquiries were prompted "because of what they saw we were doing, reaching out to everybody instead of just our members," Brother Bynum explained.

He was able to help them out immediately, as there were many full-time missionaries in the building to assist with the relief efforts.

Brother Bynum said close cooperation with U.S. Army officials facilitated clean-up and repair by Church members.

Cooperation between the army and the Church was so close that members merely had to mention their affiliation with the Church to obtain whatever help or materials they needed in providing relief, Brother Bynum said. By identifying themselves to army personnel as Church members, they could work unrestricted after hours, he said.
