Janette C. Hales of Provo, Utah, was sustained Saturday, April 4, as president of the Young Women. She previously served as second counselor in the Young Women presidency.
Virginia H. Pearce, Salt Lake City, and Patricia P. Pinegar of Provo, were sustained as first and second counselors, respectively.Ardeth G. Kapp was released as Young Women president, along with her first counselor, Jayne B. Malan. Sister Kapp was released to serve with her husband, Heber B. Kapp, who has been called to preside over the Canada Vancouver Mission.
Janette C. Hales, born in Spanish Fork, Utah, served on the Primary General Board from 1988-1990. She has been a gospel doctrine teacher in Sunday School, a teacher in the Relief Society, Young Women and Primary, counselor in a stake Relief Society presidency, and an instructor at the Missionary Training Center in Provo.
She is a former Utah state legislator, andhas served as president of the Utah County Medical Auxiliary.
Pres. Hales has four daughters and a son. Her husband, Robert H. Hales, died in 1988. She is a member of the Oak Hills Ward, Provo Utah Oak Hills Stake.
Virginia H. Pearce was born in Denver, Colo., but reared in Salt Lake City. Before being called to the Young Women general presidency, she had served on the Primary General Board since 1988. She also has served as a counselor in ward and stake Primary presidencies, a counselor in a ward Relief Society presidency, as a gospel doctrine teacher and as a teacher in Primary, Relief Society and Young Women.
She has co-authored several children's books and taught classes in children's literature. She and her husband, James R. M. Pearce, are parents of six children. She is a member of the Parleys 6th Ward, Salt Lake Parleys Stake.
Patricia P. Pinegar, a native of Cedar City, Utah, served on the Primary General Board since September 1991. Previously, she served with her husband, Ed J. Pinegar, when he was president of the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, and of the England South Mission in London.
Her Church service includes callings as ward and stake Primary president and teacher, ward Relief Society president, counselor and teacher, ward Young Women president and adviser, and stake Young Women counselor and adviser. She has also served as a PTA president. She and her husband have eight children. She is a member of the Oak Hills 6th Ward, Provo Utah Oak Hills Stake.
