More than 2,500 pieces of artwork from 27 countries and 32 states have been submitted for the Children's Art Exhibit that will open Jan. 15 and run through April 19, 1993, at the Museum of Church History and Art in Salt Lake City.

About 300 pieces will be selected to hang in the gallery for the exhibit."The response from the young people has been overwhelming," said Jenny Lund, curator for the exhibit. "The works are primarily on paper and include drawings, oil paintings, finger paintings and collages. All the more interesting is the fact that the pictures for this exhibit were created by Latter-day Saint children between the ages of 5 and 11."

Title of the exhibit is "Through a Child's Eye: All Families of the Earth Be Blessed." The artwork will be organized for display into four broad categories: families, families at work, families at worship and families at play. Each piece of art portrays the importance of families with the children expressing their faith in God, their love for their families, their insight and their creativity.

"Some of the sweetest, most soul-satisfying impressions and experiences of our lives are those associated with home, family, children, brothers and sisters," President Ezra Taft Benson has said, adding that "family life should be a time of happiness and joy that children can look back on with fond memories and association."

The Museum of Church History and Art is located just west of Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City. It is open Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.
