Ricks College art teacher Leon Parson has been commissioned by the United Nations to do the first four paintings for a series of stamps representing endangered species.
Parson was selected from five artists who were nominated from throughout the world.Parson, who has taught art at Ricks for the past 13 years, is a nationally recognized wildlife artist. He submitted a portfolio to his art representative in New York, N.Y., last fall, and was notified earlier this year that he had received the commission.
His paintings will represent four endangered species, including a plant, an animal, a reptile and a fish.
The paintings will be unveiled at the United Nations building in Washington, D.C., later this year.
