SANDY, UTAH

Ariena (Rena) Stok Vandenberg, widow of Elder John H. Vandenberg, an emeritus General Authority, died June 13, 1992, at her home, 10 days after the death of her husband on June 3. (See Church News, June 6 and 13.)Sister Vandenberg, 88, was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, a daughter of Jan and Jannigje de Bel Stok. She met Elder Vandenberg when he was a missionary in the Netherlands. A convert to the Church, she was assigned as a housekeeper in the mission home in Rotterdam. They married June 18, 1930, in the Salt Lake Temple, after she immigrated to Utah.

She served in many Church callings, including Primary, YWMIA, Relief Society and ward choirs. Most recently, the Vandenbergs were members of the Crescent 13th Ward, Sandy Utah Crescent Stake.

The funeral for Sister Vanderberg was June 17.

The couple are survived by their two daughters, Lenore Vandenberg Mendenhall and Noreen Vandenberg Francis; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
