After President Gordon B. Hinckley finished speaking to some 2,100 missionaries at the Missionary Training Center on June 22, he was greeted by the missionaries' enthusiastic singing of "Happy Birthday."

It was a day early, but President Hinckley, first counselor in the First Presidency, responded with a wave and smile, which were returned by the missionaries.President Hinckley observed his 83rd birthday June 23 by following his regular office schedule and taking time out for a birthday remembrance by the First Presidency office staff.

In the evening, he attended a family dinner and get-together.

President Hinckley was born June 23, 1910, in Salt Lake City, a son of Bryant S. and Ada Bitner Hinckley. He is married to the former Marjorie Pay, and they are the parents of five children.
