President Hunter calls on long-time friends in Hawaii

President Howard W. Hunter made some unannounced visits while in Hawaii for the inauguration of the new president at BYU-Hawaii.
On Saturday morning, Nov. 19, President Hunter decided to call on Eugenia Logan, 94, and Emily Eno, 84, who had worked with him during the infancy of the Polynesian Cultural Center. Sister Logan and Sister Eno live with some of their children and grandchildren. The families were notified about 5-10 minutes before by telephone that President Hunter wished to visit at their homes.The families and the long-time friends were surprised and delighted to receive President Hunter and his wife, Inis, as their drop-in guests. They were touched particularly at the sensitivity shown by President Hunter for his friends.
Members of the Laie 5th Ward were surprised to see President and Sister Hunter enter the chapel for sacrament meeting at 8 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 19. President Hunter instructed Bishop Allan Oleole to proceed with the service as planned. Eight of the ward's young women presented talks on general presidents of the Young Women organization.
As President and Sister Hunter left the chapel, the congregation sang an emotional "Aloha Oe," the traditional island song of farewell.
