- Organist Clay Christiansen set the tone in his prelude for the priesthood session with strains of the melody, "Come, Listen to a Prophet's Voice," subdued as President Howard W. Hunter entered the Tabernacle and swelling in crescendo as the prophet and congregation were seated.
Just before President Thomas S. Monson, who conducted the session, greeted the congregation, the organist played "Beautiful Words of Love" in anticipation of what would be coming from the pulpit.
Directed by Donald Ripplinger and Robert Bowden, the Tabernacle Choir and Mormon Youth combined men provided musical selections.
Elder Angel Abrea of the Seventy offered the invocation, and Elder Lowell D. Wood of the Seventy gave the benediction.
