President Thomas S. Monson, second counselor in the First Presidency, observed his 67th birthday Sunday, Aug. 21.
During the day, he attended a meeting of the First Presidency and Council of the Twelve. He spent that evening with members of his immediate family.President Monson was born Aug. 21, 1927, in Salt Lake City to G. Spencer and Gladys Condie Monson.
In October 1963, when he was 36, he was called to the Council of the Twelve and served in that quorum for 22 years. He was called as second counselor to President Ezra Taft Benson on Nov. 10, 1985, and as second counselor to President Howard W. Hunter on June 5, 1994.
President Monson and his wife, Frances Johnson Monson, are parents of two sons and a daughter; they have six grandchildren.
