The prophecy in Ezek. 33:30-34 indicts the people for a fault which prophets have said also besets people of the modern age. The Lord said to Ezekiel: "They sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after much covetousness.
"And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not."President Spencer W. Kimball referred to this scripture in general conference of October 1975 and admonished: "When we love the Lord, why do we still break his laws? We implore you, then, earnestly, to discontinue the purchase of things on the Sabbath day."
Failure to observe the Sabbath evidently was a problem in Ezekiel's day also, as shown by Ezek. 20:12-13, 16 and 22:8.
